Lee Roy Selmon has a history that combines family scholarship football and volunteering for the community. First of all the Selmons were born by Lucious as well as Jessie Selmon on a farm near Eufala within Oklahoma as the eldest of their nine children. Also, he was one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma on the field of football. All three brothers were All-Americans. They made the All-America team in 1973. Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the players for one season. Lee Roy is the winner of both Outland Awards as well as Lombardi Awards. He was the best lineman in the entire nation. For three years, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy as the starter. Also, they won 2 national titles. In 1975, he received his third scholarship, and was named an National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon obtained his degree in education. Lee Roy spent ten hours a week on volunteer work during his college years. He settled down in Tampa after graduation, and was a member of the Buccaneers for nine years and was three-times all-pro. His business career began. In 1988, while working as an account representative at First Florida Bank of Tampa He was a member of the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It was the Junior Chamber of Commerce honored Lee Roy in 1982 for being one of the top 10 youths of the United States. As a student, Lee Roy was 6-2 and was weighing 256 pounds. He coached his university team in the year 1975. In 1993, he was a part of the University of South Florida as the associate director of athletics. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988, and the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. The Selmons' parents Lucious as well as Mary Selmon, Jr. received the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. Henry Bellmon is the Oklahoma governor that made the award.
